Three players from the Lithgow open women’s hockey team have been selected for the NSW’s squad in the Australian Hockey League. Andrea Gillard, Rene Hunter and Abigail Wilson will make up the squad with 30 other players.
From this group the NSW Arrows team will be selected to compete at the Australian Hockey League in Perth between September 28 and October 8. The final team will be announced on August 24.
“They have all done very well,” said Leanne Bowman, manager of the Lithgow open women’s hockey team.
“All three of them made it to the team last year.”
National head coaches will be present at the league in Perth to select players for the national development squad.
Lachlan Sharp, who played for Sydney North West in the state championships, has also been selected for the NSW Waratah men’s team.
The Zig Zag forward found out last week he has also been chosen for the 2017 National Development Squad.
Zig Zag manager Brian Kelly, who attended the State Championships, said Lachlan made an impression at the tournament.
“I watched him play all last weekend. He played very well in every game,” Mr Kelly said.
“He was strong on the stick and I didn’t know he’d actually been sick.”
Clare Bosman, Tamika Bostock, Amelia Leard and Jess Luchetti were selected for the NSW women’s country team to play at the Country Championships in Townsville on August 11 to 19.
Lithgow’s Nicholas Milne, Luke Sheppeard and David Reid were selected for the country men’s team.
