The Wallerawang Bowling Club Cutters defeated the Orange Raiders 11 runs to four in the elimination final clash.
There were opportunities for both teams. The Raiders had the bases loaded in the top of the first inning and was only able to convert it to a one nil lead.
The Cutters responded immediately with the bats to be leading three runs to one after the first inning.
Strong pitching in the second, third and fourth innings by Cutters’ Ben Smith allowed the likes of Tim Reeves, Joel O’Brien and Aaron Dellabosca to apply scoreboard pressure.
The Raiders, taking advantage of a tiring Ben Smith, brought the score to seven runs to four. At this point the Cutters handed the ball to Luke Smith, one of the standout players of the season, to shut down the Orange hitters. The Cutters then put the game out of reach.
The Orange Raiders have enjoyed a successful first year in the competition having won the Higgy’s 7’s and making the playoffs and should only get better.
The grand final will be played this Sunday at 12pm at the Lake Wallace Baseball complex.
The game promises to be a thriller with their last clash resulting in an 11 all draw. The Lizards will go in as favourites with the Cutters yet to defeat last year’s grand finalist.
