The event was not without its controversies, though, with one semi final being marred by a forfeit.
Having their names “put up in lights” were Ian Townsend (skip), Col Wotton, Jim Bannerman and Graham Pitt who triumphed 24-22 after having to put in a tremendous fightback after losing the first seven consecutive ends to trail 11-nil.
Skip Adam Favell, Bob Brown, Peter Kearney and Don Kenniff scooted away before Townsend and his side began their fightback, still trailing 10-16 two thirds of the way through the final, highlighted by scoring six shots on the 10th end.
A run of five successful ends to Townsend, including five shots on the 18th end, saw them lead 22-16 with two ends remaining before finally prevailing to take the title.
The Townsend-led four won through to the final with another tight win, 21-20, over Kerry Clarke, Peter Rutherford, Bob Kiernan and Ritchie Bilby, the Clarke-skipped side marching into their semi final with a clear cut 21-15 victory over Warren Kennedy, Barry Perry, Ted Healey and Bill Cullen.
