The announcement comes after Lithgow City Council carried a motion at its last meeting to lobby Mr Gee to speed up the NBN’s arrival in Lithgow.
Information given to the Lithgow Mercury by an NBN spokesperson, previously reported in October, said people would be able to “make the switch” from August 2018.
An official statement from Mr Gee said the NBN network for Lithgow is currently being designed which is due for completion in July 2017.
Mr Gee said construction is on track to commence after the design work is complete and will begin in the second half of 2017.
Mr Gee said being late to the party may not be as bad as it seems, as Lithgow will be getting fibre-to-the-curb (FTTC) technology.
