WIN or lose, the Lithgow High School team must be one of the smartest looking teams at a robotics competition currently under way in Sydney.
The school’s robotics team (the Blast Furnace Bots) tagged, locked, loaded their gear and took off on Thursday for their first ever challenge at the three day robotics competition that concludes today at Sydney Olympic Park.
The team is made up of 17 keen students along with EnergyAustralia mentor Ben Hawkins.
Looking splendiferous in their uniforms that were provided by EnergyAustralia, the team received their final pep talk by principal Ann Caro before heading off to the competition.
“We are very proud of your efforts,” the principal said.
“The enthusiasm, interest and dedication by you all has been outstanding.
“I would like to thank EnergyAustralia for providing these smart uniforms, you all look great and I can see the excitement within the team already.”
Ms Caro gave special thanks to EnergyAustralia’s Ben Hawkins who has been heavily involved since the start of the project.
She said the school will be following the team’s efforts with pride and interest.
She also thanked the parents who transported the team and provided a cheer squad.
The aim of the robotics challenge is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders.
This is done by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster wellrounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
