And like the mine itself it will be sadly missed.
What started out in 1990 as a fund to help fellow workers in times of need grew rapidly — so rapidly that to be able to keep the fund contained the workers started giving money to community groups and projects.
Twenty five years and over $500,000 later the days of giving from the fund have come to an end with the mothballing of the mine.
Recipients for 2015 included Early Childhood Links, Access Industries, Three Tree Lodge and Lithgow Aged Care.
Extremely grateful for the donation, representatives from each of the not for profit groups relayed their gratitude to a round of applause.
Workers from the Angus Place Colliery wished the story would be a different one as they handed over the cheques for the last time and announced what a privilege it had been to be able to donate over the years.
The smiles contradicted the unhappy reality that Angus Place Colliery has now been placed under care and maintenance with the declared possibility that it may re-open in 2018.
