The man, described as an experienced bushwalker, was last seen leaving home on October 20.
His Falcon station wagon was later located in the car park at Kanangra Walls.
Since that time there have been daily searches in the fading hope he may still be alive.
Yesterday a Rural Fire Service party reported spotting an unidentified person in a deep gorge but had been unable to make contact.
It was also announced that businessman Dick Smith has donated $30,000 towards the cost of the ongoing search.
In an unusual twist to the operation an unmanned drone has been used for the first time in a search operation in the area, making it possible to cover a much larger search pattern and at lower altitude than conventional aircraft.
