Portland Central principal Murray Borham was honoured that the school was chosen to hold the skilloffs in Commercial Cooking and welcomed finalists Darcy McMaster from Red Bend Catholic College in Forbes and Nataya Ritchie from Five Islands College in Wollongong.
“It is a privilege to have the girls here,” Mr Borham said.
“This is a chance for Portland Central students to witness an important event that they can aspire to.
“We are just lucky that we are half way between the two schools or this experience may not have eventuated.
“I’m sure the students will take away something positive from the experience.”
The Portland Central Primary Cooking Club got a first hand look at the three course meal the two competitors had to produce over the six hours they competed.
The menu consisted of Caesar Salad, Crumbed Breast of Chicken with Tomato Concause and Poached Pear for dessert.
Judges Karen Pickering and Robyn Marshall (both from Orange) had the girls under constant scrutiny throughout the time frame with the end result only three points the difference.
Apart from the Portland Central Cooking Club being winners on the day, it was Natayla Ritchie who was awarded first in this round.
Natayla will now be off to Perth as part of the NSW team to contest the next round.
