AFL SportsReady has placed a full time trainee, George Mackay, with Portland Central School (PCS).
Mackay was a part of the Indigenous Academies Combine in 2011 (a multi-skill learning camp) and has progressed to full time employment.
He is undertaking a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation while working with Portland Central School.
He is responsible for running recess and lunch time activities with the students from kindergarten to Year 12.
He is also working with indigenous students during class time to assist PCS with their literacy and numeracy programs.
During the school holidays, Mackay teamed up with Central West Development Manager Peter Yandle and the GWS Central West team to assist in holiday programs and learned the skills of running Auskick activities.
