New positions were voted on and, despite Don MacMurray having been president for the past two years, he has stepped up to do another year.
“We made a resolution to extend Don's term for another year,” interim secretary Winsome Smith said.
Lack of members was the main cause of Don’s extension but the group is excited to see him keep him in the role.
The new committee team is made up of president Don MacMurray, vice president Betty MacIntosh, interim secretary Winsome Smith, treasurer Patsy Mansell, outings co-ordinator Willa Murdoch, speaker co-ordinator Allen Carlin and membership welfare officer Jenni MacMurray.
“It’s a wonderful organisation which captures the experience of shop-keepers in town,” volunteer Basil Lemcke said.
Mr Lemcke, who has been a part of the organisation for a number of years, has been able to share his knowledge on local businesses.
Mr Lemcke has experience in multiple fields having taught 19 different subjects. He has taught calligraphy, short hand writing, typing, painting, sketching, ballroom dancing and massage among other subjects.
Mr Lemcke, now 91, also has prior experience in acrobatics, including one memorable event when he performed in front of 500 people at a hospital ball.
Having worked at a hardware store for 25 years, Mr Lemcke is happy to share his knowledge on shop work for those interested.
“It’s good fun being a part of this group because we get do things that help people and it actually helps you with life,” he said.
Bill and Joyce Leslie, who have been married for 71 years, said they both enjoyed being apart of the group and what it stood for.
Mr Leslie also happens to be one of the life members of Probus.
