“Cancer is heartbreaking at any stage of life, and a lot of blood cancer patients are just little kids,” she said. 

“I work with babies, and I’ve just had a daughter of my own, who I love more than I could ever have imagined. 

“I can’t bear to think of the heartbreak parents of sick kids go though. This is only a very very small token to help support those families, but it’s something at least.”

The big shave will be happening at Queen Elizabeth Park at 2pm on Saturday, March 17 and she hopes the community will turn out to buy a sausage sandwich and watch the show. There will be an opportunity for other people to undergo the big shave (for $20 a head) under the clippers wielded by Rachael Green. 

“The Leukaemia Foundation receives no ongoing funding so relies on events like this and donations from the public to fund their research and keep the support services they offer going,” Andrea said. 

“And hair, is just hair. I’m lucky enough to be able to grow it back, and if my hair can be made into a wig for someone that doesn’t have that choice then I’m excited to be able to do that.”

The wigs made from real human hair donated by people like Andrea go to chemotherapy patients. 

Andrea said she had already been touched by the generosity of Lithgow people to her appeal.

“Everyone knows someone who has been affected, who has lost somebody, from cancer,” she said.
