Member for Bathurst Paul Toole announced on Friday, February 16 that just over $1 million has been allocated to the creation of the park. The announcement came at the new home of the Adventure Playground, Lithgow’s Endeavour Park.
The $1,042,308 NSW Government grant will be coming from the NSW Government’s $200 million Stronger Country Communities fund.
The fund aimed to provide Lithgow residents with improved facilities the whole region could enjoy.
“This is fantastic news for Lithgow!" Mr Toole said.
“Public spaces like this play an important role in regional communities and I’m thrilled the Adventure Playground is now going to become a reality.
“Endeavour Park, off the Great Western Highway, has been selected as the preferred location due to its central location and accessibility. The site also has existing facilities including toilets, parking and utilities that will be incorporated into the overall design.”
Mr Toole said an increasing number of Adventure Playgrounds were being built around Australia, including Bathurst and Orange.
“Lithgow’s Adventure Playground will become a valuable community asset that provides fun, safe, interesting and unstructured play areas for local families and visitors to the region,” Mr Toole said.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said the Stronger Country Communities fund was one of the six funds that made up the NSW Government’s $1.3 billion Regional Growth Fund, which is designed to improve economic growth and productivity through investment in regional communities.
“The Stronger Country Communities fund is a once-in-a-generation investment and I’m excited for the people of the Lithgow region that their Adventure Playground will finally be delivered,” Mr Barilaro said.
Lithgow City Council first started to look at the possibility of providing an Adventure Playground in 2011.
A new playground was seen as a potential drawcard for the town but it was clear it would take time to secure funding and make it a reality.
In 2014 Endeavour Park was named as the preferred location for the playground. In 2017, council included the park on its list of preferred options for Lithgow’s Stronger Country Community grant.
