Sharp scored doubles in the deciding match of the Kookaburra’s test series against the Netherlands in Perth, the team’s first face-off against the Dutch since their quarter-final loss at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Before Saturday’s match Australia trailed 1-0 in the four-game series after a 3-2 loss and two draws.
However, the Kookaburras turned the series around securing a 6-1 win against their rivals, Lachi getting two balls in the back of the net.
“It was a pretty special moment, not many people get their first international goal and then get two. I am over the moon,” Lachi said.
“I think the team would have liked to win a couple more [of the matches], but not many people come up against the Dutch 6-1, so I think their feeling a lot right now.”
Lachi said connections between the team, which has welcomed new faces this season, contributed to a strong win in the last match of the test.
“It’s still pretty early in the season and the newer connections payed off in the last games, we are getting used to playing with each other.”
Otherwise, Sharp said he is getting used to his new Perth digs. He moved to Western Australia in January.
“It’s been good, I’ve been living with an ex teammate from Ryde. I don’t mind Perth, it’s like a little country city and not as hectic as Sydney.”
Sharp will find out next week if he has been selected for the Kookaburra’s next international stint, the Azlah Shah Cup, to be be contested in Malaysia in March.
“I think I played pretty well the other night, so hopefully I can train up well this week,” he said.
