After beating John Perry and Jim Kelly in their quarter final Col Wotton and Kevin Shorney faced up to Peter Rutherford and Bruce Gibbons in a semi final match up. Rutherford and Gibbons finally triumphed. Once they regained the lead on the seventh end, the pair was never headed and finally came out 21-18 winners.
Rutherford and Gibbons earned their berth in the semi final with a 24-18 win over Dave Robson and Ted Healey. While members wait for a new champion pairing in this event, they are also looking at how the major singles title will pan out.
The draw was not that kind to two multiple title holders in Jeff Madden and Mike Johnson who were the first two drawn out.
Madden is the reigning champion, having win the title for the last two years, while Johnson also won consecutive title in 2011 and 2012.
Two games in this event were played mid week where Ian Townsend was able to hold off the challenge from Les Barnes 31-13 while Peter Kearney had a few anxious moments in his game against White Ng before finally winning 31-22.
