Portland v Hampton
It was entirely Portland’s day when the team met Hampton on Saturday in the Lithgow District Senior Cricket competition.

After losing opener Stephen Bender early, caught out for eight, Sam Cameron and Brett Holt combined to set an intimidating total.
Cameron starred with the bat, laying on 82 in the number three spot.
He had plenty of support in Holt, who made a half century of his own before being caught from the bowling of Matt Tuxford for 51.
The pairing led Portland to a total of 4/205. Matt Tuxford claimed two wickets in his four overs for Hampton, with Jai Risby and Jake Monaghan each taking one.
Hampton was in trouble early. Dan Hart was caught and bowled by Joel Cameron, for eight, while Jai Risby was able to make a quick 12 before his wicket was clipped by Mitch Bionda.
Bionda could not be stopped from there, taking Brett Campbell and Sam Miller for ducks. Matt Palmer made a stand for Hampton but was eventually dismissed for 17.
Cameron and Bionda each took four wickets as Hampton collapsed, all out for 62.
Valley v La Salle Hornets
Valley was too strong for the Hornets, finishing 70 runs ahead of their rivals.
Joel Gurney was on the attack early with the bat, taking 30 runs before being caught off the bowling of Richard Wheeler.
Not to be outdone, Valley’s Eli Felton smacked seven boundaries for a total of 36 and Sam Johnston was getting them over the fence on his way to top score on 39.
La Salle struggled straight out of the gate. Tail-ender Adam Lewis top-scored on 25 as the team finished on 79.
Valley’s Aron Crowder took four wickets for just eight runs, with Chris Guigni took 2/20.
SECOND GRADE
Hampton v Lidsdale
Hampton won on a forfeit.
Lithgow Hotel 1 v Portland
Lithgow Hotel 1 demolished Portland in their first game back after the Christmas-New Year break.
Lithgow Hotel made 147, with Matt McManus starring with the bat.
He made 69 before being bowled out by Peter Bourke. The run score was supported by Matt White (12), Dan Hine (16) and Matt Thompson (16).
Portland got off to a good start with the ball, taking the first five wickets for just 21 runs before McManus dug in. Bourke ended up with 4/24, ably supported by Blake Todd, who took 3/16.
In reply, Portland scraped together just 32 runs. Dean Cornish made a stand at number nine batsman, top scoring with 14 runs, but he had no support.
Four Portland players ended on ducks, including Justin Selman whose brief appearance at the crease finished in a golden quacker off the bowling of Terry Ford.
Ford and Kidd accounted for all the batsmen. Ford ended with 5/16 and Kidd with 4/15.
Valley v La Salle
Set a toal of 63, Valley wasted no time in securing a round 10 win over La Salle.
Richard Sharp top scored on 33*, with Lachlan Sharp making 13 and David Glasson supporting with 12*.
Graeme Clarke and Jono Reid were the wicket-takers for La Salle. Clarke took 2/12 while Reid finished with the scalp of Mick Wren to end on 1/20.
La Salle had struggled to put on runs, with just two batsmen turning in double figures. Steve Moore was dismissed on 11 while Matt Williams, coming in at number nine, made 10.
The scalps were pretty evenly shared between the Valley bowlers, with Connor and Will Brown taking two each. Adrian and Richard Sharp, L Brown, Peter Brown and David Glasson all took one each.
Down at the duck pond
The second grade competition saw plenty of eggs coming out of the Christmas break.
Lithgow Hotel 1’s Mitch Brain fell for a duck, caught off the bowling of Wayne McCann.
He had the satisfaction of seeing plenty of his opposition fall with a run, as four Portland players surrendered without score.
J Hughes was bowled by Quentin Kidd, while Terry Ford did the honours for Justin Selman. Selman was bowled facing his first ball of the day.
Austin Bradley and C Bray also failed to score, falling to Ford and Kidd respectively as Portland slumped to a decisive defeat.
La Salle’s Brad Luka was caught out off the bowling of Valley’s Will Brown, batting at number four as Valley made swift work of La Salle’s line-up.
In first grade, Hampton racked up four ducks against Portland. Mitch Bionda claimed the scalps of Brett Campbell and Sam Miller, while Matt Tuxford and tail-ender Ken Allen were also caught for 0.
La Salle’s Lachlan Yates was bowled for a duck against Valley.
