Police said they were not investigating the incident, which occurred at approximately 5.35pm on Tuesday afternoon about 10 minutes out of Lithgow towards Bathurst.
A westbound lane was closed temporarily.
“A few cars spun in the water and lost traction, hitting the guard rail,” Senior Constable Fiske said.
“They lost control because of the weather and then the other cars behind them braked heavily to avoid the ones that had slid out.”
Mr Fiske said an ambulance attended the scene but no one involved in the crash needed to be taken to hospital.
“There were no serious injuries and everyone was on their way fairly quickly. The cars sustained minor damage.”
Current forecasts for Lithgow are predicting chances of a possible thunderstorm on Wednesday with 1-5mm of rain. Forecasts for Thursday are clear and sunny.
