A charity was started in the name of Simon Williams, who passed away in 2015. It helps the families and siblings of children who have lost their lives by providing keepsakes, teddies and books about grief for young people. It also provides access to counselling sessions donated by Joanne Murray.
The charity was established in March 2016 by Shane Williams and Renee Bradford.
Hayden approached Renee in October to ask if he could mark Simon’s birthday, December 6, by supporting the charity and undertaking the walk. He aimed to raise $7000.
“Hayden was one of Simon’s friends and he wanted to do it for him,” Renee said.
“It was very special and the community support has been amazing.”
The walk, called ‘7 for 7 for Simon’ will end at the new rotunda at Portland on Wednesday, December 6 at about 11am. Renee invited the community to join Hayden for lunch at the Coronation Hotel afterwards.
Donations are accepted at Kteen, Millers, Lithgow NRMA and the Wollemi Bakery as well as through the Simon Williams Memorial Charity online. Donations are currently estimated to have raised $9000.
