Program coordinator Ashlea Werner said the evening was a celebration of the HIPPY families, which recognised the efforts and achievements of all involved in the program from coordinators and home tutors, to the parents, carers and children.
She said HIPPY had “encouraged a love of learning and built self-esteem and confidence of their children to enjoy and achieve at school.”
Overall 31 families graduated from the two year program from across Lithgow, Wallerawang and Portland.
These families completed 45 modules of literacy activities in the process.
Ashlea Werner also said HIPPY was sad to lose two tutors, Katie and Mandy.
“We would like to wish them well on their future endeavors,” she said.
“We cannot underestimate the work of these tutors in developing strong and lasting relationships with their families and delivering so many positive outcomes into the Lithgow community.”
Families living in Lithgow, Wallerawang and Portland areas with a child in the year before formal schooling, around 4 years old, may be eligible to start the HIPPY program in 2018.
Parents can call HIPPY Coordinator Ashlea Werner on 6352 4868 to find out more about the program.
The Brotherhood of St Laurence (BSL) is licensed to operate HIPPY in Australia.
BSL has partnered with Centacare Bathurst to deliver HIPPY Bowenfels in Lithgow, Wallerawang and Portland.
