A fashion show at Portland RSL on Saturday night, November 25, will demonstrate how upcycling can transform op-shop wear into catwalk couture.
“I want everyone who wears a gown to feel beautiful on the night,” artist and designer Robyn Caughlan said.
“We might live in a small town but we all still have our own identity and can express that.”
Hair designs will be by Narelle Roland.

Featuring local models including Lithgow City Councillor Maree Statham, doors will open at 7pm.
The evening will be a fundraiser for Portland’s Cultural and Heritage Association, which formed this year with the aim of supporting Portland’s artistic expression and maintaining its heritage.
One section of the show will be dedicated to upcycling – works created by artists Robyn Caughlan and Leila Constable. Another will feature wearable art inspired by indigenous designs.
Robyn has had an international design career, including designing the national costume for the Miss Universe Pageant, Miss Earth and Miss Teen Australia.
The new association aims to open a heritage and community space which will be able to house items of cultural importance to Portland and offer a venue to run workshops and programs for residents.
Tickets are $10.
Organisers thanked St Vincent de Paul in Portland for its assistance and Portland RSL Club for sponsoring the evening.
“We hope this will become an annual event,” association member Premala Sangara said.
