Richa, brother of Chechade Richa, an anti-same sex marriage activist, will square off against Liberal John Alexander and former NSW Labor premier Kristina Keneally in the December 16 poll.
Although both Alexander and Keneally publicly support same-sex marriage, the "no" campaign won a slender victory in Bennelong, with 50.2 per cent of the vote.
The Australian Conservatives, meanwhile, are staunch opponents of same-sex marriage.
Chechade Richa heads Verum Media, a Christian online current affairs platform, which promoted anti-same sex marriage material throughout the postal survey process.
A recent video on Verum's Facebook page depicted men painting over a mural of pop singer George Michael in Sydney's inner west. Two people, including a 16-year-old boy, have been charged with vandalism.
Verum Media told Fairfax Media they were not connected to Joram Richa's campaign or the Australian Conservatives.
The by-election was triggered after Mr Alexander, who has held the seat since 2010, was forced to resign after admitting that he was "most likely" a dual citizen due to his father's British descent.
