Lithgow couple Carol and John Stevens have been sponsoring Marlon and hope to bring him to Australia to undergo surgery and be fitted with prosthetic limbs to help him walk on two legs.
Thirteen-year-old Marlon lives in Payatas, one of the poorest areas in Manila.
Dr Angus Gray, a paediatric surgeon at the Prince of Wales Children’s Hospital, along with his team have agreed to perform Marlon’s surgery for free.
Now the Stevens are seeking to raise money to pay for new prosthetic legs, which will cost between $10-20,000.
The fundraising total to purchase prosthetic limbs for Marlon has now risen to $3500.
Over 70 people attended the concert and they were entertained by the fantastic tunes of local singing group Liberty with Anna Smith on the piano.
Carol Stevens thanked Ron Lincoln for acting as MC as well as Brian and Jan Kinney who made a wonderful contribution to the concert.
She also thanked Bev Coombs, Barbara Kuncio and Glenda Phipps who organised the event, as well as the members of the Bible Church who helped to make the day such a success.
“I would also like the thank the talented singers and musicians who put a smile on every face and finally the community who attended and supported the event to help us raise the amazing sum of $1200 for Marlon,” Carol said.
Carol and John are hoping Marlon’s visa will be approved in the near future to enable him to come to Australia around March or April.
They will be organising more fundraising events to take place in the new year.
