The book features 100 treasured real-life stories written by everyday NSW seniors.
Readers will be able to find Yvonne’s story titled “Tom” on page 132 where she she reflects on her time with her best mate.
The 80-year-old was thrilled to have her story included in the book.
“I’m very excited… I hope it encourages more people to write stories,” Yvonne said.
“Writing stimulates the brain, but sometimes it can drive you crazy too trying to find that right word.
“It all started about 12 years ago when I went to a journal writing course. I was hooked from that moment.
“To see your work actually in print is something special. It makes it all worthwhile.”
This is the second time Yvonne has had a story published in the Seniors’ Stories with her story “It’s called falling” featured in Volume 2.
Yvonne was congratulated for her achievement by Member for Bathurst Paul Toole.
“This book will transport you into the lives of our brilliant seniors, offer inspiration, comedic relief, and perhaps even comfort as they bare all and share their real-life experiences,” Mr Toole said.
“This book will not only make you laugh and cry, it will inspire, help build greater connections between young and old in our communities, and encourage older people to stay healthy and socially connected.”
Yvonne and her husband Brian moved to Lithgow from Penrith to be closer to family.
“We’ve been here eight years and made lots of friends and we volunteer, we just love Lithgow,” she said.
Seniors’ Stories Volume 3 is available at all local libraries across NSW or a copy can be downloaded here.
