This week at Club Lithgow Jiggers play Helmets to see who progresses to the Grand Final. Red Sox are already in the Grand Final and have the week off.
Major Semi-Final:
C & W Printing Red Sox versus Welch’s Highway Smash Repairs Jiggers
Shannon Baer versus Greg Sutton: these two are nearly the slowest players in the game due to that they heavily base their game around safety. Baer had to catch a 38 deficit and he made it worse by giving Sutton easy points by fouling. Safety was the key word early and Sutton missed a couple of good opportunities by not potting two blacks and a blue. Baer slowly found his rhythm caught Sutton on the colours sank the blue and pink to win the game but the white went in/off the black making the score 68 – 66 to Baer.
Jeff Stait versus Trent Lewis: Stait had a good comp from the half-way point on and Lewis is a leading contender for the Regal has been very consistent. Stait had to chase a 36 start and if Lewis was on that would be a long hard climb for Stait. Luckily Lewis only showed glimpses of form as Stait was on from the first ball as he was pulling back the points. Stait was relentless as he surged ahead with good play to easily win 95 – 53.
Peter Warner versus Jamie Glencorse: Warner is having a fairly good comp and Glencorse has had a very good 12 months and this comp has hit a wall big time. Warner was another player chasing over 30 points to get in front of Glencorse and he did this though Glencorse put up a pretty good fight. Once Warner got the wind in his sails he was always going to be hard to stop and that’s what happened as came home to win 71 – 56.
John Lyons versus Justin Nelson: This was a much anticipated game as Lyons being the ‘old master’ and one of Lithgow’s finest player’s for30 odd years and still plays a mean game was up against someone who has taken that mantle of one of Lithgow’s finest. It started out slowly as the other could only pot a red and played safe. Lyons played a couple of rare odd shots for him and suddenly Nelson after not doing much suddenly exploded. He scored 2 breaks of 16 and 17 and moved ahead easily and Lyons was stunned. In a good show of potting there were a couple of reds left Nelson cleared the table scoring a 41 break to win 91 – 13 leaving Lyons only to score seven points.
Trevor Cameron versus Kyle Lewis: With his team now only just on the board Lewis was going to try and start the resurrection of Jiggers but he had a hurdle in an opponent called Cameron. This was the fourth game that a Red Sox player had to chase over 30 points to get a victory and so far they were doing it easy. Cameron played some very good shots and Lewis was in a big hole that was getting bigger. The funny thing Cameron never played a snooker to catch up but once he pulled ahead that’s all he wanted to do. Cameron won 91 – 62 to put his team into the Grand Final.
Minor Semi-Final:
Lithgow Valley Storage Helmets versus Hunter Mining Methods Miscues
Ian Bulkeley versus Matt Tattersall: Bulkeley has not lived up to reputation with his new team and has not played that well and Tattersall has been at the least consistent. Bulkeley actually stood up when he was needed in this game as he played very well and Tattersall though playing some good snooker lost his consistency. Once Bulkeley took the lead he was not to be stopped as he won 68 – 35.
Brett Bradley versus Ritchie Bilby: Bradley once into his shot stance takes the longest time and Bilby is not quick to get to have his shot so this gives you an idea of the length of game time. Once they got to have their shots it was an entertaining game as both were potting some nicely. Bradley was the one who played the better as Bilby suddenly stopped to become a spectator. Bradley finally ground away to win 61 – 25.
Chris Baker versus Brian Bonus: Twice these two have met in competition rounds and twice Bonus was the winner. Did Bonus have the wood on Baker we are just going to find out as the battle started? Baker is the competitions lowest handicapped player and fairly good at it also and Bonus is just solid most of the time. Baker chased very hard and Bonus was not making it easy by potting some good balls and playing safe. A great spectacle of snooker this game that right down to the last ball and it was Baker who reversed the trend when he won 75 – 69.
Ian Miles versus Dennis Goodwin: Miles through the competition rounds lost three black ball games by going in/off on the black then after that he picked his game up. Goodwin only scored his first comp win the third last game so both were not going that well. This was a low scoring game with reds being sunk with no major colours to follow. It was close all the way through with both playing some enterprising shots and with Miles there points in front with just the black left. Well it happened again Miles had a shot on black sunk it and there goes the white as well into a pocket giving the game to Goodwin 45 – 41 and was his team’s only winner.
Logan Spice versus Brian Nightingale: An interesting matchup with the up and coming Spice playing an experienced veteran in Nightingale. It was close in the early stages of the game as both were trying not to let the other get some traction to get away too far. Spice was the one who was in control of his game as he was potting some good shots and in the end was too good for Nightingale as he won 50 – 27.
