Bathurst City hosted the Blackett-Whiteman Shield on November 8, which was contested between Canobolas-Orange, Mid Western-Dubbo and our own district, Western, which covers from Hazelbrook to Majellan at Bathurst.
The shield was donated by Elma Blacket as a friendship and competition trophy to be contested between the three districts.
Eily Whiteman was a foundation member of Bathurst City with her name being added in 1972.
In 1987 Eily Whiteman was honoured with the Order of Australia Medal for her services to sport. This shield was first played in 1963 and in 1968 when the Shield was played at Bathurst City, cost of lunch and afternoon tea was $1. We have certainly come a long way since 1968.
Players from Hazelbrook, Lawson, Lithgow, Portland, Wallerawang, Oberon and Majellan participated by being victorious 211 over Mid West 208 and Canobolas 206
Western last won this shield in 2012.
