“The whole idea is to give small gyms in the area a chance to compete, without having to travel – to fight guys from bigger gyms in front of their home crowd, organiser Paul Traish said.
“We want to build the sport in our area, that’s the aim.”
The night will include eight bouts, pitting fighters from Lithgow against representatives from Mudgee, Bathurst, Orange against fighters from the South Coast, Sydney and the Central Coast.
Five local fighters will appear. The main event of the evening will be the contest to decide the West Region Fight Night title between Blue Mountains Martial Arts Centre's Billie Gordon and Wayne Cummings from Viking MMA on the Central Coast.
The event will double as a fundraiser for Resilience 2018, with tickets to a special VIP cage-side table on offer.
“I think sport itself is so important when we’re talking about mental health. Guys need an outlet for their stress, for whatever they are dealing with… They get together, all train hard, become like another family. It brings people together and makes them feel good.”
Local musician Carl-Christoph Oskar Paul will provide entertainment from the time that doors open at 5pm. Break-dancers will also be performing between fights.
“It’s really good atmosphere, and often people are surprised by that, it’s a family friendly event.”
Tickets are available full price at the door, or at early bird rates from High Street Music and King of the Pack until 5pm on Friday, November 17.
A public weigh-in will be held on Friday night at the Workies Club showroom at 6pm.
