Round 13 saw leaders Charolais have their long winning streak broken.
Meanwhile, bottom side Spinners are losing touch with the pack following three straight losses.
The in-form Grippers outfit stole the jump on Charolais and went to an early 4-1 lead.
Charolais closed the gap to 4-3 but a 6-1 run from Grippers blew the score out to 10-4. Grippers held Charolais at bay the rest of the way to record a 16-11 victory.
Riza Wiradi led the way for Grippers with a round-best 6-1, closely followed by Lou Kappos (6-2), while a poor night from Mark McAulay (2-5) fortunately didn’t cost his team.
A seventh straight win for Charolais would have all but clinched the Minor-Premiership but they now find themselves in a dogfight with three other teams.
All team members were below their best as Dave Mays and Pauline Wellfare both scored 3-4, and Sean Jenkins 2-6.
The teams both won a doubles rubber with Charolais gaining some consolation by claiming three games to two.
Loopers blew the struggling Spinners off the table by winning the first three rubbers all 2-0 and the fourth 2-1 to establish a commanding 8-1 advantage.
Spinners put the brakes on momentarily at 9-3 but Loopers kicked away again for an emphatic 17-9 triumph.
All of the Loopers contingent finished in positive territory, with Michael Wood returning 6-2, Kelly Gurney 5-3 and Linda Kappos 4-3 in the singles, and they also won the only doubles 2-0.
Spinners must beat Wrecksavers this week and, with the bye in the final round, they might squeeze into the semi-finals.
Malcolm Jefferies (3-4), Sharnie Roberts (3-5) and Leon Rust (2-6) need to turn their form around quickly for that to happen.
Wrecksavers had the bye.
Pointscore: Charolais 37, Grippers 35, Loopers 34, Wrecksavers 33, Spinners 26.
Action is continuing this week.
