While a brisk wind blew, the sun was shining and competitors took part in a range of horse and novelty events during the day.
Rydal Show Society vice president Sarah Martin said the gymkhana’s success was due to the hard work of the Show Society’s Youth Council.
“It is an opportunity for local kids to have fun on their horses and showcase their farming skills,” she said.
The experience of organising the gymkhana, from organising sponsorship to running the day, would give the youth council members valuable experience that they would then bring to the show committee.
Novelty events were held at lunchtime, featuring all the old favourites, the egg and spoon race, three-legged race, sack race and more.
“They are lots of fun and get everyone involved,” Youth Council member Grace Hadley said.
“Lots of spectators like to watch the challenges.”
The Farmer’s Challenge, Ironman Challenge and Barrel Race events, showcasing the competitors’ farming skills, were also held during the afternoon.
