It will be two great days of racing on October 21 and 22 at the Marrangaroo track.
The event honours Clyde Marshall, one of the founders of the Lithgow Kart Club who dedicated his time to the upkeep of the track.
He lived and worked at the track and was well known as “a colourful old character”, Combined District Kart Club president Russell Becker said.
After his death, the Lithgow Kart Club was merged into the Combined Districts Kart Club, which continues to operate today.
The memorial event is the biggest club level event hosted by the local club during the year.
The racing is held over two days with about 120 entrants expected to take part.
It will include drivers as young as six and take in a large range of classes.
“It attracts people who don't come to the events we hold every month,” Becker said.
“The trophies – traditionally they have had an image of Clyde’s face on them – are sought-after. People are keen to have them on their mantelpiece.”
In classes that have more than 10 competitors contesting the title, an additional prize of car tyres will be up for grabs.
This will be the first time the event has been run on the resurfaced track. The club has invested $250,000 on the improvements, and Becker said drivers would notice the difference.
“It has made the track completely different – it’s really good on tyre wear,” he said.
“The old track was pretty hard on tyres. You’d find yourself throwing a set away after just one race meeting.”
