That all changed on Monday, however, afternoon at Kennerson Park, when the two-year-old red fawn bitch came of age and won her maiden race for Lithgow trainer Terrence Northey.
Madam Shacoby ($8) was fourth-odd favourite in the Bathurst Automotive Group Maiden (450 metres) and jumped out of box two at 3.36pm.
Yet it was Sageman ($5.50), donned in the red number one bib, who got away to the best start until Madam Shacoby bolted to the front coming around the last turn.
Sageman came again in the final straight to put pressure on the leader, but it was Madam Shacoby who claimed the win in 26.52 seconds.
Race favourite Concealment ($2.70) finished in sixth.
The win comes after career plagued by slow jumps from the boxes.
“She’s slow out. You’ve got to be better than what she is when she’s slow out,” handler Darren Northey said.
“But she got the bunny today and was a different dog up front.
“I know she’d come close today. She got the box, weak field. She’s did lead over 600 one day and got run down, so I knew if she’d got on the bunny she’d do well.”
Northey is adamant that Madam Shacoby will back at Kennerson Park next Monday.
Her win comes after two races in the space of three days.
“She had a run in Lithgow on Saturday, so she’s back in the space of three days,” Northey said.
