Police within the Chifley LAC are warning people to be wary of email scams after reports of a widespread email scam.
The email sent out informs the recipient they have a traffic fine, which needs to be paid.
A link is provided to download the information on how to pay. Police have warned people against clicking on these links.
In a statement released on Monday, Chifley Local Area Command stated that infringements were posted out via mail and not emailed unless you were stopped and supplied an email address. You would also have to agree to the infringement being emailed to you.
If you receive an email stating that you have an unpaid infringement do not download any files, click on links or provide any financial information, delete the email and make a report via the https://www.acorn.gov.au website.
A Dubbo business was caught up in the infringement scam, as the notices claimed to be coming from the business.
