WHAT does the future hold for Lithgow’s old Tatts Pub. The pub which had, and may still have, the highest unimproved property value in the CBD went into receivership and shut its doors several weeks ago. The joint goes up for auction on October 27. Some years back Tatts was famously negotiated for possible acquisition by Woolworths to provide a prime frontage to Main Street but after a promising start the deal fell through.

Grotty
WHISPERING Lane between Main Street and the Council car park has to be the grottiest thoroughfare in Lithgow. Seems that a significant proportion of the city’s pigeon population is lately calling that vicinity home and the unsavoury evidence of their bodily functions is carpeting the pavers. It’s an ugly mess that requires urgent and ongoing attention.

WITH the unabated madness of America we should be forever grateful that John Howard was our PM at the time of our worst mass shooting, at Port Arthur. Against intense vitriol from the home grown gun lobby his firearm controls prevailed. Australia became a safer place and shooters found the sky wasn’t falling after all. Compare this with the cowardice of US Congressmen who value gun lobby votes ahead of the lives of their fellow Americans.

WITH facial recognition technology about to scan our driver licences maybe some airbrushing technology can be added to the Motor Registry cameras. The cameras have a talent for showing their licence clients in a less than flattering manner and there will be some scary sights out there in this new security data base.

CAN someone with a smidgin of civic consciousness please replace the under awning lights at the old railway buildings on the Eskbank Street bridge. They’ve been failing for a while and the prevailing gloom at such a prominent location does nothing for our image - and all for just the cost of a couple of fluoro tubes. Typical.
