Cr Lesslie said the council had missed an opportunity to engage with key government officials when Cr Goodwin met with MP Paul Toole and Deputy Premier John Barilaro alongside Lithgow District Chamber of Commerce president Angela O’Connor last week.
Cr Goodwin has responded to the public attack, stating he attended the September 28 meeting in “good faith to represent the collective interests of our local community”. He said he had no intention of undermining the council.
“The meeting, being an initiative of the business chamber, was organised to discuss the job uncertainty in our region at present,” he said.

“The positive outcome of the meeting was that the government is developing a plan and an announcement would be made soon.
“I am saddened by the media release featured on the Lithgow City Council Facebook page on Friday, September 29.
“The intention of the meeting was not to undermine Lithgow Council, as the release appears to suggest.
“It was simply to attend as a concerned resident who had the opportunity to speak with the Ministers regarding our current situation.”
In Cr Lesslie’s statement on Friday, he said Cr Goodwin had not followed proper procedure to attend the meeting.
“Councillor Goodwin has not attended our discussions with Centennial and he has had no briefing on the issues we wish to raise with the NSW Government on behalf of Centennial, so unfortunately Lithgow has missed an opportunity on this occasion to gain the certainty for employment of our mining community and Centennial that is so necessary for their long term future.”
