Cr McAndrew received the support of six councillors at a vote held at the council meeting on Monday, September 25.
“I just want to congratulate Councillor McAndrew on his election as deputy mayor. His appointment earlier this year has been such a boon to me in my role as mayor,” Mayor Stephen Lesslie said.
“It’s made my life so much easier to know that I have someone I can deal with, someone who is experienced and really should be called ‘Mr Lithgow’. Congratulations.”
Cr McAndrew was elected deputy mayor in January 2017, after former deputy mayor Martin Ticehurst was disqualified from council. It was resolved at the extraordinary meeting on January 23 the elected deputy would serve until September 25.
Cr Steve Ring also nominated for the position and received support from Cr Maree Statham and Cr Darryl Goodwin.
Cr Ray Thompson, Cr Deanna Goodsell, Cr Cass Coleman, Cr Joe Smith and Mayor Stephen Lesslie all voted for Mr McAndrew.
“I just want to thank my fellow councillors for their support. I will do the best I can over the next 12 months. There are certainly a lot of challenges at the moment but I will continue to do the best as I have done while sitting on this council,” Mr McAndrew said.
