A TOTAL fire ban and severe fire danger have been declared for the Lithgow region on Saturday due to very dry conditions and predicted hot weather.
The mercury is expected to reach a top of 30 degrees, well above the long-term September average maximum for Lithgow of 15.9.
RFS Chifley/Lithgow Team Operational Officer Brett Taylor said the severe rating covers the Bathurst, Oberon and Lithgow local government areas.
“All fire permits are suspended,” he said.
An Incident Management Team will be on standby at the Bathurst Fire Control centre on Saturday.
During severe fire danger, the NSW RFS website states: “Well prepared homes that are actively defended can provide safety”.
“But, only stay if you are physically and mentally prepared to defend in these conditions.”
Call triple-0 to report a fire.
