The winner will take their place in the 2017 Holden Cup grand final against either the St George Illawarra Dragons or Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles.
Penrith had to do it the hard way, travelling to Brisbane to face the young Broncos in the semi-final but came away with a strong 33-12 win.
The Panthers particularly muscled up in defence and managed to go into the sheds leading 16-6 despite having little of the ball.
“We just held on, we just kept turning up for each other and that’s what we all spoke about all week,” Egan said after the victory at Suncorp Stadium.
The Lithgow Storm junior and former Workies gun didn’t shirk the dirty work as he chipped in with 32 tackles of his own.
He has averaged 34 tackles a game in 2017 season but has also made a huge impact on the scoreboard.
The crafty number nine barreled over the try line just after half time against the Broncos to bring his individual tally up to 17 four-pointers for the season.
He was nursing a slight soldier injury after the match which he suffered earlier in the year but said that won’t stop him from taking to the field in the grand final qualifier.
Egan was recently named at hooker for the National Youth Competition Team of the Year and his running total of 15 try assists so far has proven his dominance around the ruck.
The 20-year-old’s highlight of the year was his four-try haul against the Warriors in round 10 however that will all change if his side can take out the main event.
Egan signed on the stay with the Panthers until the end of 2019 and is sure to see some action in the NRL and the Intrust Super Premiership (ISP) in the next two years.
Penrith’s ISP side has been travelling well this season and will tackle the Wyong Roos Leichhardt Oval on Sunday.
