The team of the best under 20s rugby league players in the country was announced at the NRL Telstra Premiership Finals Series Launch at ANZ Stadium.
He was joined in the Team of the Year by Penrith teammate Reed Izzard who found a place on the interchange bench.
Egan’s most recent accolade comes after the Lithgow Storm junior and former Lithgow Workie signed a new two year deal with the Panthers on Wednesday, August 30.
The new deal locks in 20-year-old hooker’s future with the Panthers until at least the end of the 2019 season and should see him succeed Peter Wallace as the club’s number 9.
The Egan family will be high on success after Wayde’s younger brother Tallan took out the Group 10 under 12s premiership with the Lithgow Storm on Saturday.
So far this season Wayde Egan has scored 16 tries and laid on 14 try assists in 18 appearances in the NYC.
He has also made a step up to the senior Intrust Super Premiership side grabbing four tries and four try assists from five games.
The Penrith Panthers finished the regular season in second spot on the Holden Cup ladder and will face the St George Illawarra Dragons in the fist week of the finals.
NRL Head of Football Brian Canavan said eight of the 16 Clubs were represented in the 2017 Holden Cup Team of the Year.
“This year’s Team of the Year is once again filled with some exciting talent and I can’t wait to see these players progress,” Mr Canavan said.
This year’s team joins an honour roll that includes some of the NRL’s most talented stars, including Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, Valentine Holmes, Kieran Foran, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Ben Matulino, Dane Gagai, Jason Taumololo, Tariq Sims, Gareth Widdop, Ben Hunt, Trent Merrin, David Klemmer, Dylan Napa, Konrad Hurrell, Luke Brooks, Bryce Cartwright, Nick Cotric, Dylan Edwards and Matt Dufty.
