Better weather over the past week have seen an increase in the fields turning out for social bowls.
This is especially so for the men’s events of a Wednesday and Saturday.
With no distractions from outside events there was a big field for the men’s social bowls on August 23 when John Burgess led home Brian Davidson and Bill Cullen to take top spot with a 14+16 scoreline.
Also winning 14 of the 21 ends but with a margin of plus ten were Davie Hunter, Bill Anderson and Doug Smith who won the second place prize money.
Cheryl Wotton and Stan Campbell put on a display to return to the clubhouse with 12 + 15 to take first prize in the mixed event on Friday August 23, easily beating out the second places score of ten + two from Dave Maruschko and Mick Wholohan.
Next on the program was Saturday’s men’s socials, won by Dave Robson and Darrell Wright with 13 + ten with Jeff Madden.
Tim Breen’s 11 + ten good enough to fill second spot.
Numbers were down for Sunday’s mixed bowls where Les Barnes and Cheryl Wotton’s 11 + 17 took top spot.
Ahead of the nine + ten scoreline from runners up Fay King, Lyn Bulkeley and June Barnes.
Spots are rapidly filling for the annual Men’s Spring Pairs on the weekend of September 30 and October 1.
This event carries $5000 in prize money, drawing a large number of top bowlers from across the state.
Entries close on Monday, September 25 at 5pm.
The lists are available at the clubhouse.
The other major event in October is the JB Kelly Mixed Versatility Sixes which carries $1500 in prize money.
Here teams of six are split into two teams of triples for the morning play and then a fours and a pairs team in the afternoon.
Nominations are now open for the club triples and fours championships.
The triples are being held on September 24 and fours on October 10 and entry lists are available in the respective club areas.
