Local golfers were met with one of the coldest days of the year on Saturday with the icy temperatures keeping the numbers down for the weekend’s stableford event.

Andrew Burton who was suffering hip trouble showed no signs of his affliction when he shot a one over par 73 to take out the A grade section of the stableford event with 36 points.
Runner up was Dave Thompson who is now back in A grade as he finished on 34 points.
B grade went to Chris Marjoram who returned the best stableford score of the day with 39 points. Marjoram has been a consistent performer over the past couple of months and has been cutting his handicap down.
Runner up was another consistent golfer in Bob Charlton with 34 points on a countback.
Brian Giblett was best in C grade with 37 points on a countback from runner up Peter Thompson.
The best scratch scores in each grade went to the three handicap winners. A grade, Burton 73, B grade Marjoram 86 and Giblett 92.
Simon Mobbs was right on target taking out three of the five nearest the pin awards with the other two going to Dave Thompson and Tony Oldfield.
Balls in the ball competition went to Alex Dengate, Tom Jennings, Don Lovett, Greg Guest, Frank Mantle and Dick Mara.
Two teams who qualified at Lithgow travelled to Oberon for the Blue Mountains area round of the state two ball championships.
The team of Gary Keen and Don Farnsworth who gamely battled on after suffering a back ailment picked up the day before in the freezing Saturday conditions were unlucky not to make in through to the finals.
They were counted out after returning the same score as the other qualifying team.
