The NSW men and women’s teams played at the week-long 2017 Country Championships held in Townsville, on August 11.
The team’s included Lithgow Panther’s club captain Nic Milne, goal keeper Jess Luchetti, Amelia Leard and Clare Bosman, Zig Zag’s Luke Sheppeard and Lithgow locals Tamika Bostock and David Reid.
Amelia Leard, playing for NSW, had a stunning run, scoring the most goals of the week out of all the players in the men’s and women’s competitions. She scored eight goals over NSW’s seven games.
The NSW women’s team came second in the championships, conceding a 2-0 loss to Queensland in the grand finals held on the night of Saturday, August 19.
The men’s team also took on Queensland in the finals, winning the championships on a solid 3-1 score. The boys from NSW were at the top of the table going into the finals.
Panthers’ stalwarts Nic Milne, Jess Luchetti, Amelia Leard and Clare Bosman will be returning to play the Hockey Premier League grand finals on Saturday, August 26, at Lithgow, after having to miss the semi finals to compete in Townsville.
