The grass and bush fire on Ivatt Street swelled to a size of around 2000 square metres before being put out by two fire crews and their trucks.
The crews responded to the incident at midday and took around 30 minutes to douse the blaze.
No homes were in danger however one truck was stationed at the top of the hill in case the fire spread close to neighbouring residences.
A resident was burning off rubbish when the fire got out of control.
Police officers also attended the scene.
Besides fighting fires and other heroic acts, fire fighters are also well-known for rescuing kittens.
This is exactly what they did on Monday morning when a kitten found itself stuck behind an external hot water system at a residence in Bent Street.
The fire crew dismantled the hot water system to retrieve the distressed feline who is now safe and sound with its owner.
