Max Sporting Group (MSG), an agency from US, is bringing out a team of eight players on a tour of regional centres, in the hopes of securing import roles.
The players will host coaching clinics for beginners in the morning and more experienced senior players from throughout the region in the afternoon, with a dunk and three-point shootout competition at lunchtime.
Last year, the tour introduced the Lazers to Addison Flynn, who went on to star for the team.
Lazers coaching and development director Adam Marjoram said seeing the way that the players handled the skills sessions with the juniors was important.
“We ended up choosing Addison from his interactions with the kids, his playing ability came second.”
While the Lazers will be on the lookout for likely talent, they are still hopeful to re-sign Flynn for the 2018 season.
“At the same time, we would love to see him use this as a stepping stone to move on to play at a higher level,” Marjoram said.
The Lazers team that will face off against the visiting team will feature a few players they are hoping to recruit for next year, including Lithgow’s Jaidyn Goodwin and Orange’s Matt Gray.
“The team loves [competing against the touring US team], to play a full team that is at that level. You see how much it takes to get there,” Marjoram said.
Coming up, the Lazers will host a shooting camp to held in the September school holidays, featuring ex Sydney Kings and Razorbacks players.
