Lily, a student at St Patrick’s, had to go through three rounds of trials to be selected in the NSW All Schools PSSA team, hard enough for year six students but even harder for hockey players in year five.
“Out of 180 girls in NSW, just 14 were chosen,” Lily’s mum Katrina Kable said.
Lily’s 16-year-old sister Hannnah was selected for the senior All Schools NSW team also competing at the Pacific School Games, an international competition that will take place in December in Adelaide.
“We’ll be driving down there all together,” Mrs Kable said.
“I think this is a really special moment.”
Like her little sister, Hannah started representing NSW in hockey when she was just 11-years-old.
This year the mid-fielder gained her first selection into a national squad. She recently returned from Europe where she was touring with the School Sport Australia’s All Australian girls hockey team.
“It was honestly the best experience,” Hannah said.
“European hockey is different to Australian games. It’s more aggressive and the skill level is higher.”
Australia placed third in the competition after coming up against Germany in the semi-finals.
This Saturday, Hannah will play for the Lithgow Panthers in the premier league semi-finals, just one of the three competitions she is playing in this hockey season.
