Amber Lawrence, who won Best Female Artist at the Country Music Channel Awards in 2015 and 2016, said the collaboration with Collins has allowed them to sing about two ideas of home.
“We’re different artists. I write songs about my home, the coastal part of Sydney. And he writes more about his home in the country, the Hunter Valley. We’re different in that regard, but our substance is similar deep down inside.”
“‘Our Backyard’ is very Australian themed, and is literally about realising how lucky we are to live here.”
The title track is currently number three on the Country Tracks Chart.
Friends since 2004, Lawrence and Collins agreed now was the right to time to try something different.
“At the moment our careers are both going well and having some down time in between our next solo albums we thought it was time to have a little fun and throw caution to the wind,” she said.
Lawrence said the album explores new themes like fighting prejudice, as well as celebrating the Australian party atmosphere.
“There’s a few songs that hit a nerve. We wanted them to be really great songs not just because they are fun but because they mean something.”
The Club Lithgow performance will combine songs from the new EP as well as songs from the artists’ solo albums.
It will be the first time Lawrence has performed in Lithgow. Following the tour she will be setting off to work internationally.
“That’s pretty rare that there is a country town I haven’t been to,” she said.
“You’ve just got to pack wisely, I bring everything I own!”
