Hill celebrated a dominant weekend in the Toyota 86 racing series with a three-day road trip from Townsville back to Canberra in a big green Hino medium rigid truck.

While his parents and the rest of the team flew back to Canberra, Hill and one of his mates ditched the fast cars for a 2172-kilometre trek home.

It probably wasn't the way Hill would have scripted the aftermath of one of the best wins of his career.

Hill smashed the biggest race-winning margin with a 13-second lead to back up his biggest pole position margin on his way to two race wins - a multi-car pile up cut the third race short.

"Massive weekend, pretty much flawless from us so we're pretty stoked with the result," Hill said.

"I thought I'd take one for the team and keep everyone else happy. Mum and dad can fly up and I'll do the road trip.

"It was a bit of an experience. I might take a break from trucking for a while."

Hill jumped from 13th to second in the standings after a dominant weekend in Townsville, but still sits 136 points behind series leader Jimmy Vernon.

Three rounds with three races each remain, meaning there is still plenty of points up for grabs as the series moves to Sydney, Bathurst and Newcastle.

Hill admits he needs to be winning races to have any chance of stealing first place, but the door will be blown wide open if Vernon has a bad round.

"Obviously we've got good form at the moment. The car is really quick, I'm feeling confident with my driving," Hill said.

"We were really fast in Sydney last year and it's probably one of my home tracks. But in saying that, it's also Jimmy's home track as well so there's no real advantage there.

"Just judging off the pace we had in Townsville and the pace we had last year, hopefully we'll be able to put up a good result."

Hill isn't sure if he will return to the Toyota 86 series next year given it has opened a pathway to the top level.

His future hinges on how much sponsorship he can get and what sort of results he pulls together to round out the year.

"I think we'll face that hurdle when we come to it. I'd love to be progressing further up the ladder and whatever doors open, we'll look into what our options are," Hill said.

The third event of the Toyota 86 series takes place at the Sydney Supersprint, beginning on August 18.
