In their ninth year, the Focus on Ability (FOA) Awards are designed to encourage film-makers to focus on the ability of people with disability.
“I am really proud of the students from La Salle Academy that have contributed to the short film,” Joyce Smith, Principal of La Salle Academy said.
There are two chances for La Salle Academy to win. They are in the running for the Judge’s Choice Award, which has the prize of a Toshiba Package valued at $10,000 or most online votes, which has the prize of a Rebel Equipment $10,000 voucher.
So, the school is appealing to the community to help get this film out there.
“Even though we are confident that the judges will love our film, if our local community gets behind us, we can win the most online votes,” the school’s Facebook page said.
Visit the Focus on Ability website and navigate to the film section. Choose the school entrants and find La Salle Academy and vote for the school to have a better chance to win.
“Our film is about everybody being the same,” the film’s director Emily Schmitzer, a student at La Salle Academy, said.
Online voting finishes on August 6.
