The Lithgow Bears played the Portland Colts for the Bears’ last home game for 2017 in the New Era Cup football competition on July 22.

The girls league tag took to the field first with the Bears’ defensive line holding strong against the Portland girls.
Portland ran out winners 22-0. The Portland Fillies found gaps and were able to ‘run a mile’.
The kick offs this week were undertaken by Latia Hardie. This was a great effort by Latia who undertook the kicks for the first time this season.
Players’ player this week went to Zoe Biles for her consistent effort throughout the game, even with a concussion and a bleeding nose, she still managed to try her hardest and keep going.
Points went to Ashlee Northey (3), Latia Hardie (2) and Clare Larkin (1). One point from the referee went to Tamika Kelly.
The boys rugby league team went down 52-0 to the Portland Colts.
Unfortunately due to players out injured, sick and other commitments the Bears were in all sorts of positions.
The Portland team was also a much larger and stronger side. They were filled with players who have had years of playing the game.
The score at half time was 28-0 with Portland dominating the game.
Players’ player this week went Luke Amos for this effort throughout the whole season. Points went to Kaleb Ritchey (3), Cody Duncan (2) and Luke Amos (1).
The referee’s point went to Blake Collins.
As this was the Bears last home game for the 2017 season. The Lithgow Bears would like to thank all sponsors who have come on board this season and for the past 35 years as well as past players and supporters who turned up in the freezing cold to watch and cheer on the Bears.
The Bears reunion will be held on Saturday, November 11 at the Lithgow Workies. All past players and supporters are welcome to attend. Tickets are $30 each and includes finger food. Tickets can be purchased from the Bears 2017 Committee.
This Saturday, July 29 the Bears league team has the general bye while the Bears girls league tag team will be up against CSU Blue for a triple header at Portland.
At this stage the game will be held at 1.30pm and will be followed by the Portland Colts game verse Orange Barbarians.
