Ella Chapman, 2, was suddenly rushed by helicopter from Bathurst Hospital to Randwick Children’s Hospital on March 3 this year in a critical condition.

It’s any family’s worst nightmare – Ella’s sickness was believed to be a virus and turned into Type 1 diabetes.
Ella travelled alone by helicopter while her parents took the car, not knowing at this stage how their little girl was doing.
Ella spent over a week in Randwick Hospital with her mum by her bedside and her dad travelling each day after work and looking after the rest of the family.
After her release, she then spent more than a week at Bathurst Hospital.
Ella had over 60 per cent of Ketone Acidosis in her body and must have four injections a day of Levemir and Novorapid insulin. She currently has a Dexcom device that monitors and alerts her mum of her sugar levels.
Ella’s dad and older brother play for the Lithgow Bears Rugby League Club, while Ella’s mum is one of the Bears first aid officers.
The Champan family are eager to help the Bears where they can without questions asked.
Therefore, the Bears Rugby League Club would like to give back to the family by helping to raise money for little Ella to get the Animas Vibe Insulin Pump.
The insulin pump would replace the injections, and would provide Ella the precise and accurate delivery of insulin when she needs it. As Ella is only two years old, the pump will allow her to be like any other kid, running and jumping around as they do at that age.
At the Bears Retro and Sponsorship Game Day two weeks ago, the Bears held a raffle with all proceeds going to the Chapman family to help to go towards getting Ella the Animas Vibe Insulin Pump.
The Bears have also donated prizes to be auctioned at the Lithgow Trek 4 Kids events that will be held at the Lithgow Bowling Club on Saturday, July 29.
