The art project is a fundraiser for the Love Your Sister charity, founded by siblings Samuel and Connie Johnson.
Artist and photographer Marie Ramos is creating thousands of little fingerprint hearts, which will be combined into an artwork.
The art will then go on permanent display at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Sydney, which is Love Your Sister’s fundraising beneficiary.
Participants are asked to pay $50 to participate in the artwork, to have their prints cast into clay and become part of the art project.
All of that $50 will be put towards medical research.
Jodie Rayner wanted to be part of the project and said she was willing to travel to the artists’ studio to become involved.
“I support the Garvan Institute because they don’t take much in administration fees, their dollars go to research,” she said.
Well known for her fundraising efforts in the region, Jodie joined the Breast Cancer Network Australia’s Great Wall Of China Challenge in 2016.
She was inspired to raise funds by her mum, Cheryl, who died of breast cancer about 18 months ago.
While Jodie was happy to travel, the artist, Marie Ramos, had a better idea – she would come to Lithgow, as long as 10 other willing sets of fingertips would be involved.
And so Sunday is the day. If you would like to join in, go along to the Grand Central Hotel Lithgow at 10.30am on Sunday, July 23.
It is a unique and lasting way to make a difference.
