A mission to help give sick children the chance to laugh, play and be a child again.
Mr Sheather will take on his second Trek4Kidz in August to raise funds for the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
“I think anyone that sees the kids will realise that they need all the help they can get,” Mr Sheather said.
“I’ve got terminal cancer and I’ve been in and out of hospitals the last four or five years.
“It’s not good when you’re in there and you see kids that are in there and you’d rather put yourself in their position… it’s not fair.”
Trek4Kidz is an annual week long event where a dedicated group explores different regional areas of the Australia by car.
Since its inception the trek has visited more than 400 towns, 45 schools and raised over $1.6 million.
The funds go towards enabling Starlight to grant hundreds of life-changing wishes or transform the hospital experience for thousands of sick children at hospitals around Australia.
This year’s trip will begin in Nowra and finish in Forbes covering 2800 kilometres and three states and one territory along the way.
Mr Sheather will be taking on the trek for the second year running with fellow Lithgow locals, brother Neville Sheather and Richard Perry.
He will be hoping to complete entire road-trip this year after being unable to complete last year’s trek due to sickness.
The Lithgow team will be attempting to raise $10,000, the figure they reached in 2016.
A fundraising night will be held at Club Lithgow on Saturday, July 29 starting at 7.30pm.
Tickets are $35 each and those who attend will be able to enjoy a meal and live entertainment from the band Nuthin’ 2 Serious.
There will also be raffles, lucky door prizes and a several big ticket items will be auctioned off such as a few rugby league jerseys including a signed Australian Legends jumper.
Mr Sheather said he would love to see 150 people attend the event.
“We’d just like to see if the Lithgow people can get behind us… if they can come along and just give us bodily support on the night and see if we can make our target.”
Tickets can be purchased from Club Lithgow, Lithgow Dry Cleaners and Lithgow Bearings.
