Former Lithgow City Councillor Peter Pilbeam said he was not disappointed after missing out on preselection to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of MLC Duncan Gay on Thursday, July 20.

Wes Fong, from Wagga, was selected to become a member of NSW Parliament, stepping into the Legislative Council.
The selection process was thorough, examining the credentials of 12 candidates at NSW Parliament House.
Peter Pilbeam said it was a tough field. Each candidate was given 10 minutes to speak and then 10 minutes of question time.
After introducing himself, Peter said he spoke on issues close to his heart, including developing energy security policy, raising issues of zone classifications for rural properties, and taking “trucks off roads and getting freight on rail”.
“I’m not disappointed. It really was a great showing for the National Party,” he said.
“It shows the National Party has got a strong base to work with of quality candidates.”
Mr Pilbeam said he was absolutely satisfied with the decision that had been made.
“Wes is a fantasic person and has proven himself a worthy candidate,” he said.
